1. Ben's Note:

Easily the high point of my last year at MentorCoach was completely revamping our flagship Foundations Coach Training Program. It lasts eight months, is intense and provides the foundation for everything we teach.

We've added more modules, reordered key parts, emphasized the role of positive psychology in coaching, and really enhanced the expectation that students will begin very soon in the program to build a rewarding practice.

While I taught every Foundations class in the beginning, I have not taken the helm myself since spring of 2002.

And so much has happened since then.

I'm excited to be co-leading a Foundations Class with Jan Hill starting May 19. I hope to bring a lot of enthusiasm and experience. And I know I'll learn a lot. (Mondays at noon eastern, starting May 19th). For more information, click here.

If you'd like to join us for a teleconference call to talk more about this class, feel free to send an email to info@mentorcoach.com and we'll share the details. Put Foundations Q&A in the subject line.

2. Announcing the Positive Psychology Immersion Master Class

This is to announce a very special treat. Chris Peterson is inviting you to a two month immersion in Positive Psychology. This is intended to give you real depth and breadth in the field with all the sharps and flats of what has occurred in the last six months.

3. Report on The MentorCoach 6th Annual Conference (April 11-13, 2008, Bethesda, Maryland)

The Earth Shook:

Did you feel the earth “move” on Saturday, April 12, around 1:00 p.m. Eastern time? More than 150 Positive Psychology-inspired members of the MentorCoach community gathered on the Bethesda Hyatt’s lobby steps for a group photo.

Fresh from a riveting all morning keynote by Chris Peterson and Nansook Park, the group had enough enthusiasm and positive emotions to fuel the hotel for the remainder of the conference.

Nansook Park, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Rhode Island and Chris Peterson on the surface seem to be an unlikely pair.

Here I am giving them their honorary MentorCoach Polo Shirts. As Chris points out, he is well over 6 feet. Nansook is petite. Chris is a baby boomer. Nansook, younger. They mention Gallup's findings of the importance of having a friend at work. They say, even better, is to work with your best friend. Which they do.

And they are fantastic presenters. Probably better than appearing alone. Ninety PowerPoint slides compressing years and thousands of hours of work together. It was a tour de force, but even better, it was fun.

I have never heard a presentation that while rich was filled with this amount of laughter from start to finish. Almost all of it unscripted and in the moment.

I have heard that Harvard's Dan Gilbert is the funniest psychologist in Positive Psychology. But I've seen him present on TED and I have to say that on a good day, Chris leaves him in the dust. (Chris claimed that this was because they quickly sized us up as not a stuffy, academic crowd and so he loosened up.)

For a quick, peek at some of their joint research, click here.

I have a summary of the presentations at the conference, but I'll save them for next time.

4. Conference Call with Sonja Lyubomirsky, Ph.D.

Join us for a conversation with Sonja Lyubomirsky, one of Positive Psychology’s foremost researchers and author of the The How of Happiness: A Scientific Approach to Getting the Life You Want.

We'll find out how she feels about all of the attention on "happiness" these days, and find out what she's working on now.

Tentative Dates:

Friday, June 20, 2008, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. Eastern (New York time). Details to come.
